I am honored that Seminole County Public Schools has appointed me as the new principal of Midway Elementary School of the Arts. I welcome the opportunity to serve the Midway learning and teaching community and look forward to working with a dynamic staff, dedicated parents and involved community members. Most of all, I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work at Midway Elementary School.
I come to Midway Elementary School of the Arts with several years of experience as an Assistant Principal at both Bentley Elementary and Midway Elementary. Prior to my service as an Assistant Principal, I served as a reading coach for nine years at Carillon Elementary, a teacher at Carillon Elementary and Eastbrook Elementary here in Seminole County Public Schools as well as taught for a few years in Fairfax County, Virginia. These experiences have given me a solid understanding of what elementary students need in order to be prepared and successful in middle school, high school and life beyond their K-12 education.
I know that Midway Elementary School of the Arts has a history of great administrators and leaders. I fully understand that I have some big shoes to fill. Rest assured that my goal will be to continue building on what everyone has worked so hard to achieve, and to use that strong foundation to move Midway Elementary to the next level including academics, arts and high achievement for all students. Together we will continue to provide outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence for all of our students.
On a personal note, I have lived in Seminole County for the past 24 years. I have an amazing husband, Rod, that has supported my journey as a lifelong learner and educator. My daughter and son are both products of Seminole County Public Schools. Mary Allison is a recent graduate of FSU and is attending UCF in the graduate program for social work. My son, Will, is a senior at FSU studying Computer Science. As a parent, I know the importance of supporting your child’s education and creating well-rounded students to be productive citizens. I enjoy college football, the beach, and spending as much time as possible with my family.
For me, the first day of school can’t get here fast enough as I am very eager to continue working with all of you and your wonderful child(ren). I believe that one of the most important aspects of my work as Principal of Midway Elementary is building meaningful relationships with students, families and teachers as well as with the Midway Community. This being said, it will be very important for me to be in the hallways, classrooms, on the playground and in the lunchroom getting to know your child(ren) throughout the year. I have found that kids really appreciate a person who genuinely invests in them by listening, by learning alongside and by being fair and consistent. In addition to building strong relationships with students, families and teachers it will be particularly important for me to make sure that you and your child feel safe and respected at our school. If you ever have a concern, please do not hesitate to call the main office or email me. I believe open communication is very important in a school and for this reason, I will always encourage you reach out to your child’s teacher, to a member of the office staff or to me with any questions you may have.
